A Story Rooted in Dreams & Determination

Shangri-La Boutique Hotel stands as a living example of how compassion and hard work can create something extraordinary. The hotel is the creation of Mr. Keshab Karki, a visionary whose inspiring life story defines the soul of the property.

Meet the Founder – Mr. Keshab Karki

Born and raised in Nepal as the eldest of five siblings, Keshab understood early the power of education. His dream was simple yet profound:
provide his family with the education he could not complete himself.

At just 10 years old, he left school and moved to Kathmandu with his uncle. There, he was welcomed into the home of a kind doctor who treated him like family. In this nurturing environment, Keshab learned the art of Nepali tea, the essence of hospitality, and even pursued his studies again—including English.

Reflecting on this time, he shares:
“It was a wonderful experience… I learned so much and was treated very well.”

At age 15, following Nepali customs of the time, Keshab married and worked tirelessly to support his growing family—taking jobs as a cook, mechanic, and taxi driver.

Then came a life-changing moment:
Ann Jennings, a compassionate soul who saw Keshab’s dedication, supported him by helping him purchase his first taxi and funding his children’s education. Her kindness became the spark that lit the path toward his dream.

Keshab says:
“Without her love and compassion, I would not be in the position I am today.”

The Birth of Shangri-La Boutique Hotel

After 12 years of saving and perseverance, Keshab finally took his first step into hospitality by partnering in a local hotel. Four years later, he was able to build his very own dream—
Shangri-La Boutique Hotel, a family-owned and operated establishment filled with heart, warmth, and purpose.

Today, the hotel is more than a destination—it is a tribute to gratitude, perseverance, and the belief that kindness can change lives.
